Maramboi Tented Camp
Sitting on the shores of Lake Manyara, Maramboi is a large permanent tented camp offering game drives in both Manyara National Park and Tarangire. It shares its unique location with just one other lodge and is a lovely quiet alternative to the value lodges clustered around the north of Tarangire. With 32 standard tents, eight suites, and two units with two interconnected rooms, Maramboi is a little on the large side. But given its very quiet location, on the shores of Lake Manyara but closer to Tarangire National Park, the lodge doesn’t feel crowded. The rooms themselves are permanent tents sitting on raised wooden platforms and are surprisingly good given the price. Large, tasteful, and clean with 24-hour electricity.
Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge
The Serengeti Serena reflects both the local culture and the surrounding environment. Set high on a hill with magnificent views of the sweeping Serengeti, the lodge is reminiscent of a traditional African village. Rondavals built in the time-honored hut style, house luxury bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Simple in design, yet sophisticated in content, the Serengeti Serena’s decor highlights African arts and crafts, including woodcarving, bead making, and pottery. Everything from key tags to headboards for the beds has been specially made. This uniquely African design skilfully incorporates the comforts and attention to detail that is the hallmark of every Serena Lodge. Therefore, if you wish to stay in a lodge, but want more of an African experience, then you will thoroughly enjoy your experience here. The lodge has 66 bedrooms and a stunning swimming pool.
This safari will cover several places in Tanzania including Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Crater. This safari will cover several places in Tanzania including Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and Ngorongoro Crater. Tanzania has the largest concentration and diversity of animals in Africa, and there are over 1,100 bird species to spot in the country. It also proudly showcases some of the world’s most treasured national parks and game reserves, including the Selous Game Reserve, which is the world’s largest game reserve. This is home to more than 120,000 elephants, 160,000 buffaloes, and about 2,000 rhinos. Furthermore, the Selous boasts Africa’s greatest concentration of hippos, crocodiles and wild dogs.
The Maasai people
The ancient nomadic stewards of much of the Rift Valley region are the iconic Maasai. They are among the most well known local tribes due to living in traditional Maasai villages near the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. They are most recognized by their distinctive customs and dress; their stunning bright robes, beaded jewelry, and remarkable height have fascinated visitors for decades.
Many Maasai continue to live as they have for centuries, in interconnected communities without any electricity, cell phones, internet or running water. Traditional Maasai life centers around their cattle, which is their primary source of food. The measure of a man’s wealth can be measured in terms of cattle and children.
National parks
The Ngorongoro Crater is another of the most pristine wildernesses on earth and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to being the world’s largest intact crater. On the crater floor, grassland blends into swamps, lakes, rivers, woodland, and mountains – all a haven for wildlife, including the largest predator population in Africa. The Big Five even call this volcanic crater home, and it is one of the last wild refuges for the black rhino.
Africa’s Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is one of the most famous parks in the world and the ultimate destination for game drives or witnessing the astounding, annual Great Migration. Boundless plains punctuated with spiky acacia trees, hippo and crocodile-laden rivers, and a landscape home to the Big Five (lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, and elephants) and more than 475 bird species–it’s no wonder the Serengeti precedes its reputation as a wildlife haven. Overnighting in a safari tent under the stars can be an exhilarating experience itself.
The Tarangire National Park is located between the meadows of Masai Steppe to the south-east and the lakes of the Great Rift Valley to the north and west. Often described as Tanzania’s most underrated national park, Tarangire is one of Africa’s little-known gems and a must for any northern circuit itinerary.
Boasting a variety of wildlife as diverse as its landscape, Tarangire is also the park that can boast being home to Tanzania’s largest population of African elephants. With four of the Big Five also residing within the park, it is a great spot for a day trip from Arusha. Named for the Tarangire River which flows through it, the park is an excellent choice during the dry season when animals are forced to move closer and closer to the river in search of water. Set against a backdrop of majestic baobab trees and twisted acacia, it makes for a beautiful experience.
