See What They Are Talking About Us?

Posted on Esteban CVerified Kubwa Five Safaris is an excelent option for your safari, just watch out during booking and planning KUBWA5 Safari Holiday Review We booked our honeymoon safari in Uganda and Tanzania with KUBWA5 this year. Our trip lasted a little less two weeks and included several parks in both countries. Overall, the experience with them was great. Since a safari holiday has many components, I’ll try to review each part separately. My main disclaimer is that this was our first safari, so we don’t have a direct reference to compare it with. With that said, here is our experience. Value for Money – 4.5/5 Overall, we believe KUBWA5 offers very good value for money. When planning the trip we compared several safari operators, and many alternatives we found online were significantly more expensive for very similar itineraries. Even though we experienced some setbacks during the booking and planning stages, mainly due to pricing and itinerary mistakes that required adjustments (including a flight change on our side), the overall safari experience itself was excellent. Once the trip started, the logistics, guides, vehicles, wildlife experiences, and overall organization were outstanding, and they made our honeymoon truly memorable. For that reason we would still rate the overall value for money at 4.5/5. The only reason it is not a full 5/5 is because of the issues during booking and planning, which required extra attention from our side. However, during the trip itself everything worked smoothly. Booking – 2.5/5 This was the main low point of the experience. We decided to go with KUBWA5 after doing some research. Our main reasons were that they are a local company in Uganda (our main destination), they had good reviews, and their price was competitive. We spent several months between our first quotation and the final version of the itinerary. During that time we asked for different options regarding destinations and plans. If you’re spending $20k+ on a trip, I think that’s fairly reasonable. When we were finally happy with the quote and itinerary—and only after paying an $8,000 USD deposit—they realized they had made a mistake in the pricing and that the trip had been underquoted by nearly $12,000 USD. That’s obviously a lot of money for a mistake. We even considered canceling everything, but we eventually decided to adjust the trip by changing some dates and hotels so we could stay closer to our original budget while still traveling with KUBWA5. Our advice: double-check and confirm all pricing carefully before paying the deposit. ⸻ Planning – 2.5/5 KUBWA5 are very flexible during the planning stage. They send a comprehensive PDF for every quote detailing the itinerary, planning, and budget. We actually used that document as a reference even during our trip. They are very open to adjusting the itinerary and usually respond relatively quickly to requests or changes. However, mistakes can happen. For example, our initial itinerary included leaving a hotel at 2 a.m., which turned out to be unrealistic for that location. Because of this we had to adjust several parts of the itinerary, which forced us to change one of our flights and cancel our final airport transfer. Some of these planning adjustments also ended up costing us extra money, particularly when we had to modify flight arrangements after the itinerary changed. These were manageable issues, but my recommendation is to carefully review every step of the itinerary and confirm travel times beforehand. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or request changes—they are very open to making adjustments. ⸻ Logistics – 5/5 After the initial challenges during booking and planning, I have to say that the trip itself ran perfectly. From the moment we landed until the end of our honeymoon, everything worked smoothly. Everyone was aware it was our honeymoon and we received many thoughtful touches along the way. Every transfer was on time and well organized. We had several domestic flights during the trip, and KUBWA5 kept us updated with schedules and made sure everything was coordinated. Once the trip started, the logistics were flawless. ⸻ Hotel Selection – 4/5 Hotels in Uganda and Tanzania usually fall into luxury or mid-range categories. With luxury properties you will generally have a great experience. However, be careful with hotels labeled “mid-range,” because the quality can vary a lot. Some mid-range lodges were excellent, while others were a bit below our expectations despite having the same classification. Overall we enjoyed most of the hotels, but I recommend double-checking specific properties beforehand if you want to avoid surprises. Hotel staff in both Uganda and Tanzania were consistently excellent. Everyone was polite, attentive, and many places added small details to celebrate our honeymoon regardless of whether the hotel was luxury or mid-range. I also recommend bringing some local currency for tips, which is appreciated by staff. ⸻ Guides – 5/5 The guides were the absolute highlight of our trip. You should know that on safari you spend a lot of time with your guide, both during game drives and while traveling between destinations. Our guide in Uganda, Charles (@kimbugwe.charles on Instagram), was fantastic. He made sure we were always happy and safe. He’s a great driver and incredibly knowledgeable about Uganda—animals, parks, culture, and local life. He made sure we saw all the animals we hoped to see during game drives. He is also very well connected, which helped with different activities and arrangements during the trip. He even organized a picnic for us, bought us fresh fruit, and took us to some great places for shopping. In Tanzania we had Bakari, another exceptional guide. He is an extremely talented tracker and driver. He always seemed to know where to go during game drives so we would be in the right place at the right time. He knows the parks very well and always made sure we felt safe and were enjoying the experience. I can’t stress enough how important a good guide is during a safari. Charles and Bakari are a big reason why our trip was so memorable. ⸻ Vehicles – 4.5/5 Vehicles are another important factor during a safari because you spend a lot of time in them. KUBWA5 vehicles were excellent. We booked a private tour, so we had the vehicle to ourselves. They were large and comfortable, with fresh drinks and charging ports available. The cars were in very good condition, which is important considering the long distances and rough terrain. It’s actually common to see safari vehicles with mechanical problems, but ours performed very well. We were never completely sure if the air conditioning worked, but honestly we never needed it. ⸻ Wildlife & Parks – 6/5 The wildlife experience was outstanding and a huge part of that was thanks to our guides. Thanks to Charles in Uganda and Bakari in Tanzania, we were able to see the Big Five, which was one of our goals for this trip. Charles even managed to spot a leopard, which we know can be very difficult to find. The gorilla trekking experience in Uganda was one of the main reasons for our trip and it completely lived up to expectations. Charles helped ensure we had a great local guide and we were lucky to visit an amazing gorilla family. It was truly one of the highlights of our honeymoon. In Tanzania, Bakari made sure we saw all the big cats. We saw lions, leopards, and cheetahs—including an incredible moment watching cheetahs hunting and lions eating. From our experience, Tanzania is particularly good for big cats, especially in the Serengeti, where animals are easier to spot because of the open landscape. If you want the classic safari experience with lots of wildlife sightings, Serengeti is hard to beat. Safaris in Uganda feel a bit different, but in a very special way. The highlights there are gorillas and chimpanzees, which are unique wildlife experiences. We also saw elephants and hippos very close, especially around River Station. We also highly recommend doing a boat safari on the Nile in Uganda, which gives you a completely different perspective and great views of wildlife along the riverbanks. Overall, the wildlife experiences far exceeded our expectations. ⸻ Food – 4/5 Overall the food was good, although the quality varied depending on the hotel. Most lodges offer international-style cuisine, but there are usually local dishes available as well, which we recommend trying. Because game drives can last many hours, sometimes meals are packed for you to eat on the go, which is a normal part of the safari experience. Overall the food was enjoyable and there were always good options available. ⸻ Safety – 5/5 Safety was something we wondered about before traveling, but throughout the entire trip we always felt very safe. This applied everywhere: in the hotels, during game drives, on the road, and while visiting parks. Our guides were excellent drivers and very attentive. We also always felt comfortable regarding wildlife and general security. Some lodges even escort guests to their rooms at night to make sure no animals are nearby, which shows how seriously safety is taken. Final Thoughts Overall, we had an amazing honeymoon safari with KUBWA5. I would recommend booking with them, but I strongly suggest paying close attention during the booking and planning process, double-checking pricing, itineraries, and hotel selections beforehand. Once the trip began, everything ran smoothly. The logistics, vehicles, wildlife experiences, and especially the guides made this a truly unforgettable trip. Davvero soddisfattiPosted on akason CVerified The worst experience in uganga ever Avoid Kubwa 5 Safaris at all costs. We booked a gorilla trekking tour in Uganda, but once we arrived, the scam began. They claimed our "luxury" permit wasn't secured and forced us to pay an amount different—nearly $900 extra—than our signed contract. Total extortion.Posted on Kevin WVerified Fantastic safari in Kenya & Uganda We truly enjoyed our private safari in Kenya and Uganda with Kubwa Five Safari. From start to finish, the experience exceeded our expectations. Our drivers and guides, Erik in Kenya and Mustafa in Uganda, went above and beyond to show us as many animals as possible. Both were proactive, knowledgeable, and incredibly warm, which made us feel safe, comfortable, and welcome at all times. The trip itself did not disappoint. Communication with the company via WhatsApp was excellent—quick, clear, and reassuring—so we always felt well taken care of throughout the journey. The itinerary was perfectly balanced, combining incredible wildlife, stunning landscapes, and meaningful interactions with local communities. The absolute highlights were trekking with the chimpanzees and gorillas—an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.Posted on courtney dVerified What a spectacular adventure! So many animals, breathtaking scenery, the best guide ever, gained a great friend! EPIC!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Wild, Unforgettable Safari Adventure With Kubwa 5 & Super Guide Mustafah My safari with Kubwa 5 Safaris felt like stepping into a real-life wildlife documentary. Every moment was filled with adventure—lions emerging from the grass, elephants moving like giants across the plains, giraffes glowing in the sunrise, hippos breaking the river surface. It was dramatic, thrilling, and unforgettable. The Kubwa 5 team made the entire experience seamless with excellent communication and impressive flexibility from start to finish. But the true force behind this adventure was my super guide, Mustafah. His instincts were incredible—he always knew where to go for the best sightings. Calm, confident, and deeply knowledgeable, he turned every drive into a cinematic scene while keeping everything relaxed and safe. He transformed the journey into a true adventure. Murchison Falls thundered with power, Pakuba Lodge felt like the heart of the wild, and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary delivered an intense, unforgettable rhino-tracking experience with a ranger Mustafah personally trusted. If you’re planning on safari, request Mustafah and Kubwa 5. This is adventure at its absolute best. Merci !Posted on Sebastian WVerified An unforgettable experience We booked a 17days Safari through Uganda and Rwanda with Kubwa Five and it was absolutely amazing. The planning of the tour was perfect, we could decide between diverse activities and the communication with the team was very easy, intermediate and on point. Our guide Samuel was the best guide you can imagine. He was very flexible, took care of us very well and showed us the best spots to watch animals. We learned so much about birds, mammels, primates, reptiles etc. Also he was a very skilled driver and we felt save all the time. Beside the beautiful National Parks, we also visited several communities and spent a great time with local people and got a lot of authentic insides. It was definitly one the best journeys we‘ve ever had. We fell in love with this countries and made new friends. It was mindblowing and we‘re sure we‘ll come back. We absolutely recommend to book with Kubwa Five Safaris!!!! Thank you so much!! Sebastian und SteffiPosted on Wu CVerified It was a wonderful journey Posted on Li ZhangVerified it was good, but with some flaws The tour arranged well in general. All the safari lodges were excellent. the transportation is smooth without any problems. however the last day was very poorly planned. Not only did it make us waste the best game drive time, but the guide was also extremely unprofessional, with no knowledge about animals. He couldn’t even tell the difference between a flamingo and a pelican, and lacked the ability to spot things that other guides could see.Posted on Christina PVerified Would recommend for UGANDA only IN SUMMARY - -WE WOULD RECOMMEND KUBWA 5 for a UGANDA Safari - shop in the other countries for local guides UGANDA Amos our guide was a treasure- he is so knowledgeable and good at his job. We always felt safe with Amos and his enthusiasm for birds and animals is contagious. We would highly recommend anyone to use him as their guide. Vehicle - was comfortable - there was one mechanical issue which Amos was able to remedy quickly without it compromising our trip Accommodation - all was ok except for Pakaba lodge - which was very dated, buffet was out of options for dinner on our first night, very crowded and was very run down. Bathroom window didn't lock and we didn't feel secure there. I would rate this as a mid range accommodation. Agandi lodge - is also classed more as a mid range (if that)- its very rustic and they were renovating while we were there so power was going on and off, etc- we realise the location is good for gorilla trekking but I think its probably not a luxury lodge at any time. The schedule for this section of the trip was good - the only change I would suggest is ditching the Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru cave from the itinerary. The waterfall is nice enough but the caves are a non event and not worth the slippery, muddy, dangerous walk. I would replace this with either an optional guided walk through the Fort Portal market or a nice lake walk or canoe from Kyaninga lodge. We loved all the other accommodations and the national parks in Uganda are the best in Africa in our opinion. As we told Shantel at the end of our first section the trip was a 10/10 for us for far. KENYA As you know we had issues on arrival in Kenya. Our guide lacked the basic animal/bird knowledge we have come to expect from every single guide we have had in the proceeding 5 weeks. We confused a fish eagle with a heron and wasn't able to elaborate on why the Masai giraffe looked different to us. He had the makings of a last minute contractor to us that had no knowledge of what we were actually doing, where, when or what was included. The vehicle was disastrous - with seatbelts that didn't even match the clip in any way, along with windows that needed a screw driver to open or where obscured. Overall this vehicle was very uncomfortable. Stephen also suggested we pay an additional $60 USD for a nature walk which luckily we declined- I would have been very annoyed if we had done this considering all the animals we would see we were able to walk with for free at our Sopa resort in Lake Navaisha. We discussed these issues with Shantel which swapped our guide and vehible which we appreciated- it did however make me feel extremely uncomfortable and caused tension between us. Our next driver was a vast improvement - he was very funny and jolly and had more knowldge and we were able to have better game and bird viewing opportunities with him. He became away quickly that the vehicle was not working in 4WD mode and this was not remedied during our time in Kenya despite his best efforts. Due to this vehicle failure we got bogged 4 x in the Masai Mara taking hours away from game spotting time, it also meant there were areas of the park we were not able to access due to the high risk of getting bogged again. For example we saw some wildebeest crossing the sand river however when we heard a high number were approaching Tony said it was too risky to return there as we would get bogged again. All the accommodation in Kenya was very nice- especially the Sopa Lake Navaisha where we did truly encounter a luxury experience. The main disapointment was Lake Elementaita - the accommodation was very nice but it was a long drive from the national park and we were told the main selling point of a luxury tour is being within the national park - here the Sopa would have been a much better option. The Lake Elementaita resort was also up a very long and terrible bumpy dirt road and the worlds steepest hill - which was challenging in a vehicle without effective 4WD. We also felt that the Muthu Keekorok Lodge was very dated and our room had a bad smell. Deifinitely more mid range accommodation. We loved the fact that Kenya had relatively short driving distances between each stop- here again the seat belts in the vehicle didn't all work again - this is a huge safety concern especially considering the way they drive in Kenya. TANZANIA Our guide was ok - we did again have the sense he was a last minute contractor again with again not much background on what we were doing, what was already included etc. The vehicle was comfortable however the tyres on the vehicle would not be considered road worthy in Australia- the tread was very worn down and consequently we had 4 x flat tyres. This was inconvenient as it took time away from our game drives and every time a driver had to get out of the vehicle to get us unbogged or change a tyre they were in danger from lions, leopards, hippos etc and we felt concerned that something would happen to them. The accommodation in Tanzania was all very nice. LUXURY INCLUSIONS As mentioned the night at Sopa Lake Navaisha was the only time the trip felt truly luxurious with the resort organising a special dinner for us. Luxury inclusions other friends of our have experienced and things we have seen on the road would be things as follows: - thermos with tea/coffee for morning tea - champagne at sunset at special spots - tableclothes at lunch stops, cutlery, glassware etc Overall we loved what we saw in all three countries again with Uganda being the highlight for us. I think improvements you could implement would be: - all accommodation being of the same class - all luxury accommodation being within national parks - vehicles with working seat belts, well serviced with tyres that are good quality for bad and bumpy roads - consider offering the same guide across the whole tour for multi-country tour to improve continuity. We spent 7 weeks in Africa- we did a three week mid range tour as well as a few shorter ones we arranged with other providers prior to our tour with you. We went to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Botswana, Namibia as well as the three countries in the Kuwba tour so we felt like we had a basic expectation around the kind of lodging that would be considered luxurious as well as the condition of the vehicle and expertise of each guide. We understand that road conditions are hard on vehicles in Africa however the vehicles we saw broken down or needed tyre changes were all old and tired and there were plenty of newer vehicles in better condition with other safari companies who were not experiencing these issues. With the vehicles it seemed they were not checked and serviced before our tour- for example, seat belts working, the KENYA vehicle had a major component of the 4WD missing completely which would have been noted if the vehicle had been properly checked. We saw numerous other luxury tour operators with much more modern and current vehicles which were obviously both mechanically sound and roadworthy. My husband does feel disappointed in the tour overall as it was delivered as a luxury tour and for $24 USD we didn't feel it delivered the value or experience we expected from this once in a lifetime trip for us. We also felt all guides need to present to same Kubwa five image across all countries- eg uniforms etc - adds to the professionalism of any tourist operation.
