Rwanda Tours

You will visit Akagera National Park.

Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s only savanna park, offering a unique blend of rolling plains, wetlands, and scenic lakes along the eastern border. It is home to the Big Five, including lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinos, alongside giraffes, zebras, and diverse antelope species. The park’s lakes, especially Lake Ihema, attract hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife. With game drives and boat safaris, Akagera provides a rich and rewarding wildlife experience in a compact yet diverse landscape.

Morning and evening game drives in Akagera National Park offer two distinct yet equally captivating wildlife experiences. Morning drives begin at dawn, when the park is calm and with soft golden light spreading across the rolling plains. This is the best time to spot active wildlife, as predators such as lions and leopards may still be on the move after a night of hunting. Herds of elephants, buffalo, and antelope graze peacefully, while giraffes browse acacia trees. The cool air, birdsong, and fresh energy of the bush create a serene and rewarding atmosphere for exploration.

Evening game drives reveal a different side of the park as temperatures cool and wildlife becomes active once again. The landscape is bathed in warm sunset hues, creating breathtaking scenery perfect for photography. Animals begin to gather near water sources, and predators prepare for the night ahead, increasing the chances of thrilling sightings. As dusk approaches, the sounds of the wild intensify, and nocturnal species may begin to emerge. Guided by experienced rangers, both morning and evening drives provide unforgettable encounters and a deeper appreciation of Akagera’s rich biodiversity.

A boat safari on Lake Ihema in Akagera National Park offers a peaceful and scenic way to experience the park’s rich wildlife. As you cruise along the calm waters, you’ll encounter hippos wallowing, crocodiles basking on the shores, and elephants or buffalo gathering at the water’s edge. The lake is also a paradise for bird lovers, with species like fish eagles, herons, and kingfishers. The gentle pace and close-up views create a relaxing yet exciting experience, making it a highlight of any Akagera safari.
