Matobo National Park

Matobo National Park occupies a total area of 44 500 hectares. Established in 1953, the Park was awarded Unesco World Heritage Status in June 2003. The Park includes an Intensive Protection Zone where a large population of Black and White Rhinoceros are successfully breeding. The park offers a diverse package of tourist attractions and activities.

The park is situated in the magnificent Matobo Hills, a range of domes, spires and balancing rock formations which have been hewn out of the solid granite plateau through millions of years of erosion and weathering. The majestic and rugged terrain of the park is a hiker’s paradise and the diversity of the vegetation supports a wide range of wildlife.

Matobo meaning ‘‘bald heads’’ was the name chosen for the area by the great Ndebele King, Mzilikazi. He is buried in the Matobo Hills just a short distance from the park.

The park is home to a wide variety of animal species including: black and white rhinoceros, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, kudu, eland, sable, klipspringer, leopard, hyena, cheetah, hippo, warthog, rock dassies, waterbuck, wildcat, springhare, common duiker, crocodiles, baboons and monkeys.

The Mighty Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and the major waterfall on the Zambezi River in Africa. It is famous for being the largest waterfall in the world, in the wet season. N1 Hotel

The N1 Hotel was established in 2010 for clean and affordable accommodation in Victoria Falls. Refurbished in late 2015, the hotel has a fresh look and now caters for both budget travelers and campers. Its location is within easy walking distance of one of the 7 wonders of the world on one side, and the town center on the other side. It is a stone throw from the Elephant’s Walk Shopping Centre, which has upmarket curios shops and some nice restaurants. It is only 1.1km distance from the Victoria Falls rainforest entrance, so it is perfectly positioned.

The bathrooms are smart and have a shower and washbasin only. The superior rooms have the most space and the bathroom has a washbasin and both a tub and shower. For those with a smaller budget, the dormitories with bunk beds are a good option if you don’t want to carry camping equipment.

The new campsite at N1 Hotel offers campers a pleasant experience on soft green manicured lawns, with lighting, power sockets and a small barbecue grill at each point. The entertainment area of the hotel is located on the campsite grounds. There, campers and hotel guests can relax and watch television, cool off in the sparkling swimming pool, or have a braai on the larger grill next to the pool. The ablution facilities are clean, with showers and shaving sockets in the men’s block. The campsite is wheelchair friendly.
