This safari will take place at Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park, Ndutu area, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park in Tanzania.
Lake Manyara National Park
Located on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park is worth a stop in its own right. Its groundwater forests, bush plains, baobab strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer incredible ecological variety in a small area, rich in wildlife and incredible numbers of birds.
The alkaline soda of Lake Manyara is home to an incredible array of birdlife that thrives on its brackish waters. Pink flamingo and graze by the thousands of colourful specks against the grey minerals of the lake shore. Yellow-billed storks swoop and corkscrew on thermal winds rising up from the escarpment, and herons flap their wings against the sun-drenched sky. Even reluctant bird-watchers will find something to watch and marvel at within the national park.
Lake Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions are another reason to pay a visit to this park. The only kind of their species in the world, they make the ancient mahogany and elegant acacias their home during the rainy season and are well-known but rather a rare feature of the northern park. In addition to the lions, the national park is also home to the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world — a fact that accounts for interesting game viewing of large families of the primates.
Lake Manyara has a big number of elephants, so many giraffes; zebras, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, and warthog, small known shy Kik’s dik-dik as well as Klipspringer along the ramps of the escarpment. Leopards are hosted within the broken forests and escarpment, healthy lions that are widely known for their tree climbing pranks. This used to be a special character of the park which is not the case today. Regarded as Africa’s largest, huge herds of baboons are expected by most of the travellers.
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value, it has the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa
The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania was established in 1952. It is home to the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth – the great migration of wildebeest and zebra. The resident population of lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, and birds is also impressive. There’s a wide variety of accommodation available, from luxury lodges to mobile camps. The park covers 5,700 sq miles, (14,763 sq km), it’s larger than Connecticut, with at most a couple hundred vehicles driving around.
The Serengeti has earned the titles of one of the “Seven Natural Wonders of Africa” and one of the “Ten Natural Travel Wonders of the World” for being the site of the largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world (about 2 million animals!). However, even without the Great Migration, the park sports the densest lion population in the world and is home to all members of the Big Five and almost 500 bird species.
Ndutu area
The Ndutu area forms the north-western part of the Ngorongoro Conservation area, which covers an area of just over 8 000 km² and includes the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the Olduvai Gorge, forests, mountains and the vast plains of Ndutu stretching to Serengeti (unfenced).
Consisting mainly of sweeping grasslands, the Ndutu area in the northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area joins the Serengeti. As such, it forms part of the annual migratory route of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and antelope (and their predators) who come to graze and calve between November and March, depending on the rains. The forests around Lake Ndutu and small koppies are also home to prolific, resident wildlife.
Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro crater is the largest intact caldera in the world – The Ngorongoro Crater is considered one of the most amazing natural wonders of the world and it’s definitely a must-see place in Tanzania. It attracts thousands of people from all around the globe, all year long and sometimes it’s so crowded that people prefer staying there for only a couple of nights and then moving on to the quieter Serengeti. When visiting the crater, visitors also get the incredible chance of interacting with the people from the Maasai tribe.
It is known as ‘Africa’s Garden of Eden’, Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken caldera in the world [610 metres (2 000 feet) deep and covers 260 square kilometres (100 square miles)]. The crater is known as the ‘Garden of Eden’, because of its stunning green grasses, blue water and the diversity of animals in the ‘small’ space of the crater. The ever-changing clouds, colours and landscapes make this crater magical.
Boasting incredible concentrations of wildlife, which includes elephants, lions, cheetahs, wildebeests, buffaloes, and the rare black rhinos. Ngorongoro Crater is one of the best places to spot the ‘Big Five’ and the rare black rhino.
Tarangire National Park
The Tarangire National Park is known as a wonderful birding destination and it is a home to diverse wildlife including buffalo, giraffe zebra, Thompson’s gazelle, mongoose, warthog and the resultant predators such as lion and leopard, particularly during the dry season, when the Tarangire River is the only source of water in the area. The landscape is of particular interest too, due to the high number of scenic baobab trees.
Tarangire National Park is most well-known for the large herds of elephant that call the park home. Herds can number up to 300 and seeing these gentle giants meander across the plains and under the iconic baobab trees is a truly memorable safari experience.

Moivaro Lodge

Seregenti Kati Kati Tented Camp
A mobile tented camp located in Central Serengeti, strategically located to cover the vast Serengeti Plains. The camp offers comfortable accommodation and a unique opportunity to enjoy a real safari camp experience. The camp is only a two-hour scenic drive from Olduvai Gorge Museum and Grumeti River. A cosy mess tent is located in the center of the camp where meals are served. The campfire is ready every evening for appetizers and snacks before dinner.
Lake Masek Tented Camp
Lake Masek Tented Camp is located in Ngorongoro Conservation Area by the shores of the Lake Masek in Ndutu between the vast of plains of Serengeti National Park and the northern side of the Ngorongoro Conservation. Each tent is built on a raised wooden platform with a veranda from which guests can observe the wildlife visiting the lake.
Ngorongoro Wild Camp
It is located in the south of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area approximately 50 kilometers South–West of Karatu Town in Tanzania. This location is the ideal mid-way point for excursions to Tarangire, Serengeti National Park, and the Lake Natron area.
Tarangire Safari Lodge
It is a substantial lodge situated 10km inside the main gate of Tarangire National Park, close to the park’s main airstrip, Kuro Airstrip. It was originally built in 1970 and so it’s one of the oldest lodges in the park. The ‘rooms’ at Tarangire Safari Lodge consist of 35 tents and five bungalows, divided into two wings of 13 tents on the right of the main area, and five bungalows and the rest of the tents on the left.
Tarangire Roika Tented Lodge
This is a unique flora and fauna of shrublands and acacia woodlands with hearty baobad trees strewn around. Welcome to the BIRDS’ PARADISE of over 500 bird species. Roika Tarangire Tented Lodge is situated roughly 125km from Arusha town and is ideally accessible by Dodoma Road although it can also be reached by air since there is an airstrip just nearby in the Park.
Kia Lodge
Kia lodge is your door to Tanzania – at less than 5 minutes’ drive from Kilimanjaro International Airport. The lodge is situated on a secluded hill in the heart of beautiful savannah scenery that is so typical for East Africa. Guests can admire the vast views of the African plains and of course the grand Kilimanjaro Mountain that shows her snowy top mostly in the morning and at sundown. Because of its location, the KIA Lodge is an ideal safe haven for arriving and departing Tanzania, climbing the Kilimanjaro or traveling on to the northern safari destinations.
Arrive anytime at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). The private transfer from the Airport to the hotel in Arusha will be waiting for you at airport. We stay at Moivaro Lodge, which is beautifully located on the coffee farms and is a perfect place to prepare for your adventure. We will gather in the evening at 5:30 pm for a pre-safari briefing and an equipment check. Dinner and overnight at Moivaro Lodge, the lodge where you will stay in a charming atmosphere and enjoy every comfort you need.
Today we drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game drives. This is one of Tanzania’s smaller parks but still offers a rewarding and diverse safari experience. The lakeshore at Manyara teems with birdlife, and while you are looking for the birds, you might spot one of the elusive tree-climbing lions. There are a surprising number of other large mammals and the striking cliffs on the Rift escarpment form a dramatic backdrop. In the late afternoon, we make a short journey from the park to our special wilderness lodge.
We head towards the Serengeti National Park. En route there is an opportunity to visit Olduvai Gorge. It is within this steep sided ravine that Louis and Mary Leakey made some of the world’s most important archaeological discoveries in the 1950s. Here in a small museum, we are able to see evidence of our ancestors that have been dated back 2.5 million years. After lunch, we drive into the Serengeti itself and the rest of the afternoon is spent game viewing in the vast plains that are broken only by stands of acacia trees and the occasional kopje. In December, February and March we will normally meet the migration with large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle. There are always plenty of resident animals, such as giraffe, buffalo, and elephant, and many large predators such as lion, cheetah, and leopard. We return to our special tented camp for the night.
We have another full day in this wonderful park, rising early to make the most of our time. Our guides will choose the best spotting locations for the time of year; we can spend time at the Hippo pool watching these majestic animals laze about in the cool water happily living alongside the crocodiles, watch a big pride of lions, be in the middle of the migration, sometimes surrounded by wildebeest, sometimes by zebras, which travel with the wildebeest.
We journey from the wide open plains to the kopjes: these volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals and from the top, we can look out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti.
This diverse and interesting landscape will provide us with the ultimate in game viewing, we will hopefully see all of the plain games; elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions and it you are lucky the elusive leopard and cheetah, as well as huge amounts of interesting bird life, from the elegant secretary birds to the flightless ostrich. We return to our special tented camp for the night.
After breakfast we will take the packed lunch with us and proceed with the game drive in the Serengeti National Park. The migration can be seen on a long chain approximately 40 Km heading to the south western direction.
Around 1230 and 1300 break for your lunch. After having our lunch we will proceed with our game viewing following the move of the migrants on the southwest of the park.
Approximately 1.3 million wildebeest, 250,000 gazelles and 200,000 Zebras have been recorded sharing the short grass.
After breakfast we will start at 8:30 am for a full day Ndutu area. A striking characteristic of this area is the stunning acacia woodland, which is immediately surrounded by the short grass plains.
Within this wooded area is Lake Ndutu – one of the Rift Valley’s soda lakes. At the height of the wildebeest migration, and when heavy rains have fallen, often lines of wildebeest can be seen crossing the lake. Accompanying the wildebeest are large numbers of zebra and Thomson gazelles. Tanzania is spoilt because of the migration. No other African county has game like it.
In the dry season, the game around Ndutu is much like game viewing in any of the southern African countries. In some cases it is still better and you can never take away the feeling of space and wonder that the Serengeti evokes.
We start the day with an early morning game drive before heading to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ngorongoro is a special place in that it is a Conservation Area, not a National Park; this means that the whole area is managed for both the animals and the local Masai people who graze their cattle alongside the indigenous wildlife.
During the drive in Ngorongoro, we have a chance to glimpse something of the Masai way of life. After stopping at the entrance gate, where there is a chance to learn more about this fascinating volcanic landscape, we will drive around the rim of the Crater itself, and from here we can look down and see the herd of wildebeest or buffalos. Finally, we descend into the crater.
The crater walls provide a natural sanctuary for the animals, which means there is plenty to see: lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino and leopard (if you are lucky). The only animal you won’t see in here is a giraffe, whose long legs are unable to cope with the steeps sides of the crater. In the late afternoon, we travel just outside of the Crater to our special tented camp.
Today we drive to Tarangire National Park, for excellent game viewing. Tarangire is a small park which offers some excellent sights. Generally, in the dry seasons, Tarangire comes alive as wildlife and birdlife congregate on the Tarangire River, which is a permanent source of water.
We spend the night in our lodge beautifully set inside the park with stunning views and a unique atmosphere. Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge
Morning breakfast at Tarangire Safari Lodge the rest of the day is free to relax and or explore the Maasai cultural experience, you will go on a walk to visit datoga tribes. The Maasai live in the areas as well as the Datoga. Learning about their history is as fascinating as the views are breathtaking from several hilltop peaks in the area. This lovely lodge is located near the airport and your accommodations will be in one of the 40 charming bungalows set among the gardens. The open air bar has a magnificent view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Relax the remainder of the day by the pool, or soak in the view from your bungalow. A late dinner buffet for those flying in late is provided.
